What does "Gay" mean? In simple words "Gay" is the all male persons who likes sex with male .In fact word gay goes beyond mere desire and the sex act itself. It refers to men who embrace a lifestyle based on their sexual orientation. Often misunderstood as an act of sexual perversity Instead it is simply a non-pro creative act.
IPC Section-377 (Anti sodomy law) was introduced during British rule in India deals with "whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman, or animal shall be punished ". But now Indian penal code is looking for amending this law and decriminalizing homosexual activity between consenting adults. But the same has been discarded by Indian society stating that this is not in our culture.
My question is for those who believe that this amendment would hamper our society:
Isn’t it shameful for us that in a libral nation like India we are challenging our own clause (Article 14 states- equality before law, Article 15-prohibition of discrimination on the grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or birthplace. Article 21-protection of life and personal liberty)?
This law is for preserving self-esteem and self-reliance amongst gay men. This is gay-ness is existing from the old times we come to know it today, Alexander the great was a gay also this is not a western trend our cave paintings shows a man seducing a man. This law will not create gay-ness or lesbian-ness this is for those who already exist but are neglected. This will protect them from societal exploitation.
If we as intellectuals claim ourselves as a leading protector of humanity then looking through the human perspective, by amending this law are we not protecting a class of human being already existing in our society is it wrong?
