No! No! No! I Don't Want It

No! No! No! I Don't Want It- If it is not relevant to me.

Those who are getting their inbox flooded with Spam mails will second me on this statement.

Of late i am receiving a lot of spam emails, almost 1 out of every 10 emails I receive is either asking me to buy something (some product which has no relevance with me) or reduce weight or congratulating me for winning millions of dollars. I don't know about winning any dollar but I am definitely losing some in terms of time, internet bandwidth and resources.

For many people like me email is a critical part of the work environment. If you take a note of your daily usage of email you will be amazed, I was. I spend nearly two and a half hours a day actively working with email. But what if some brands without realizing the power of email, start misusing it by flooding your inbox with spam emails?
Below are some spam sample:

Hi Nidhi, Congratulations you have won 1 million Dollar! - "Is earning money just an email account away?"

Hi Nidhi, Here is a special weight loss coupons for you - "Oh crap, I am already underweight!"

I am tired of saying no to such emails, but no wonder why India ranks number two among spam-sending nations (Trend Micro).

Business spend millions building brands and then spoil it by sending millions of useless, unwanted emails. Brands need to act responsibly and shall give a fair choice to consumer by allowing them to receive emails. Brands it’s time to wake up before India become stringent on internet norms and take strict actions against you.

My  advice to Brands:
  •   It's time for you to save those millions of dollar which are going down the drain, spams sent to consumer are not bringing any business but definitely making you lose some- an important message that went to the junk-mail folder .
  •  If consumers opt-in or opt-out for an email they are more likely to have a positive attitude towards that brand than spamming them. I am a subscriber of Harvard business review newsletters and every 6 months they make me fill a small form, seeking my approval to continue receiving these newsletters. The form also asks if wish to have a look at some other relevant subscriptions - which is again a smart play-and by the end of one year I opted out 1 free subscription but have taken a paid subscription of HBR.
  • In an attempt to know me as a consumer, you can make me fill my details at the payment counter- I like it when Vodafone sends me specially customized offers as per my usage plan study. I have changed my plan as per their advice and I am saving cost on unnecessary spent and continuing to pay my loyalty since last 8 years  That is how a brand earns trust.
  •   Keep yourself updated with consumer details – My friend who got married last year, received a special anniversary discount from Globus and she was so delighted with the brand’s awareness that she visited the nearest outlet same day and spent INR 10 000. So you see how being smart rewards you.
  • My one last message to Spammers:

Hello Spammers, Knowing my name doesn't make an email solicited in my inbox.Try harder and know me more, seek my approval and make place in my inbox. Your responsible act can definitely make you win a customer!

DARE TO BE AN ENTREPRENEUR

-->
Let us first start by defining who an entrepreneur is. An entrepreneur is a person who takes risks, puts in effort & perseveres to achieve the end result. At the end he may be rewarded for his effort. He sets examples and shows other people that a certain thing can be achieved by being an example himself. On the other hand a manager by virtue of his profession is normally assigned a particular task & assigned some resources. He has to complete the assignment with the constraints imposed on him.
Entrepreneurs are the change agents. Managers are the maintainers. In times of accelerated change organizations need entrepreneurs and that is why we India need them. In more stable times, organizations need managers.

If today we think why is the US more prosperous than India? Is it because we Indians are less smart than Americans? No, Indians are universally acknowledged for their intelligence. Is it because they have greater resources?  No, India is as much if not more rich in natural resources. Then, why is the US more prosperous than India? The US is more prosperous simply because they have more entrepreneurs.

If India needs to exterminate poverty, we have to grow. To grow, we have to employ the unemployed.  NASSCOM and CII have estimated that if India wants to be a developed country by 2020, it needs to create 10 million jobs.

The million-dollar question is how these jobs are going to be created?
Neither the Army nor the police force can absorb such a large amount, nor can the Railways or the government. They can only be absorbed by the private sector. The industrial set-up is expanding, but not at the rate that can employ such large numbers. Is there any solution to this grave problem? Fortunately, YES, the answer is entrepreneurship.

But, why do we need entrepreneurs, because they create jobs as per TiE (The IndUS Entrepreneurs, a non-profit organization, promoting entrepreneurship), each entrepreneur creates 30 jobs. An entrepreneur creates jobs, setting stage for a flourishing economy, unlike an individual, a job seeker, a burden to the economy. Managers employed by large corporations use their creativity and intellect to make the Gates, Buffets and the Murdochs richer, whereas entrepreneurs make themselves and their nations richer.

Entrepreneurs realize the tremendous demand for goods abroad and help to market the surplus. This will make the Indian market, export competitive and at the same time, the MADE IN INDIA brand more acceptable. The surplus footstock, which would have been otherwise rotting in the government storehouse, can be exported, thus serving to earn foreign exchange. The government gets rid of the excess stock while the exporter earns revenue, leading to a win-win situation.

An important factor influencing FDI, from developed nations to developing nations is the concentration of entrepreneurship. FDI is directly proportional to entrepreneurship.

So, the message is clear; we need more entrepreneurs. It is high time, the government realizes that only and only entrepreneurship can help it grow at the high rate and rethinks its policies.
